Walla Walla Flail-Ex

Clearly, we have made an upgrade from Indian Food Truck in Biggs Junction, and Russ's Bar & Grill in Umatilla, complete with sticky floor, cracked vinyl seats and CD juke box.  (To be fair, neither was half bad.)

Approaching Walla Walla

Aside from getting to Dayton, WA, today's chief task is to make up for the appalling lack of a suitable way of shoving air into an airless tire tube.  I set our route through Walla Walla to go by a bike shop.

As we got to town center, road construction set us on a detour.   Unknown to us at the time, around the bike shop, because of course, duh.

(The Garmin Edge 1040 is really an excellent piece of kit.  Full disclosure: other than our credit card having taken several Garmin hits over the years, we have no connection to Garmin.  The web interface for route planning is pretty good, although it routinely fails to tell me what I ought to be doing.  Like adding a marked waypoint at the bike shop's location.   Stoopid computer.)

Ten or so minutes later, Susan starts suggesting a certain amount of wifely discomfort with my navigation skills.  Never mind grasp for the obvious.

So going all new tech, I ask Siri for directions to our intended bike shop.  (NB: this was approximately the first time I've asked Siri anything.  I already have enough women in my life telling me what to do.)

A mile and a half back we go, to find the shop had closed early for the Memorial Day weekend, five minutes prior to our arrival.

My mind then collides with The Obvious.  "Hey Siri, give us directions to the nearest bike shop."

Which was all of a block from where Susan got through to me the first time.

New tube, pump & mounting kit, five correct CO2 cartridges, and $116 later, we were on our way.

  1. Sticky floors are the best. We trained Sue for such dives. Remember the Lyndora Hotel? Or even better Piddlers Pub? Diane ordered a martini and they wondered where she came from

  5. Never have been to Walla Walla. You’re going to be in several places that are truly “off the beaten path” before you finish and I know that’s the plan.
