Leaving the Mountain West Behind

OK, not quite.  The Bighorns remain tomorrow, but the landscape change today was striking.  And made all the more enjoyable by a tailwind practically hurling us down the road.

On with today's saturation photo bombing.

Crazy Mountain, speaking of crazy.

The last of the Rockies

The first of the Plains

Alongside the Yellowstone River

Just past where the road disappears is today's destination, Joliet, SD.  Tomorrow's is straight ahead, over the horizon: Lovell, WY.

Sixty-one spectacular miles.  2395 very different miles to come.

  1. You're right -- there will be a few mountains left, just more plains between them now. The Bighorns while not so wide west to east, have a pretty big altitude gain. Still a bit cooler than normal in the Black Hills, but we're still promised 80-degree weather before you arrive. We've had big winds lately and today is no exception. Fortunately, out of the NW to W which will definitely hurl you down the road.
